The world international trading system

The term ‘world trading system’ refers to the various contemporary arrangements of trading relations between countries, and particularly the system of multilateral rules following two great wars and a worldwide economic depression. This article discusses the important role of trade in the transition from the ancient to the modern world. Among other things, their aim was to reorganise the international economic system by establishing an International Trade Organization (ITO). This organisation was designed to be the third pillar of a new economic world order alongside the newly founded World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
